Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today reviewed the law and order and internal security situation in Gujarat at a high-level meeting in Ahmedabad.

Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Union Home Secretary, senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate offices, and officials of the State Home Department and other concerned departments attended the meeting.

Several important issues, including border and coastal security, implementation of the new criminal laws, drug trafficking, cybercrime, terrorism, illegal migration and disaster management, were discussed during the meeting.

Keeping in view Gujarat’s nearly 2,340-kilometre-long coastline and its international border with Pakistan, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah emphasised the need to strengthen border and coastal surveillance and ensure better coordination among the Border Security Force (BSF), State Police, Coast Guard and central agencies.

Shri Amit Shah appreciated Gujarat’s performance in the implementation of the new criminal laws, stating that 92 per cent of chargesheets in the state were filed within 60 days and 86 per cent within 90 days. The Home Minister directed the state to launch a special drive to clear more than 25,000 pending forensic cases.

The Union Home Minister said that action against drug trafficking must not remain confined to small-time peddlers. Instead, the entire drug network and its principal kingpins must be targeted, with financial investigations being prioritised to seize their illicit assets.

Shri Amit Shah directed that the capacity of S4C and the 1930 helpline be enhanced to tackle cybercrime, counter-terrorism agencies be strengthened, and the identification and deportation of illegal foreign nationals be expedited in accordance with the law. He appreciated the deportation of 2,412 illegal foreign nationals under special drives.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation also emphasised the need to accelerate work relating to disaster management, fire safety, the Ahmedabad Urban Flood Management Project, and the survey and disposal of enemy properties.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Union Home Minister directed all Central and State agencies to work in close coordination and regularly review progress against prescribed targets. He reiterated the commitment to building a secure India through a safe, developed and drug-free Gujarat.
