The Military Nursing Service (MNS) organised the Scientific Conclave on “Digital Innovations in Nursing Practice: Harmonizing Technology with Compassionate Care” as part of the closing ceremony of its Centenary Year 2026 at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt. The conclave brought together senior leadership, nursing professionals, healthcare practitioners and technology stakeholders to deliberate on the evolving role of digital innovation in strengthening healthcare delivery and nursing practice.

Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO, BHASHINI, was invited as the Keynote Speaker at the inaugural ceremony of the Scientific Conclave, where he delivered a keynote address titled “Wired in Wellness: The Scope of Opportunities of Digital Health in Transforming the Healthcare Landscape.”
General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, Chief of the Army Staff, was the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony. The programme also witnessed the release of the MNS Diary and the Nursing Research Compendium, along with the e-release of the scientific souvenir titled “Digital Pulse of Nursing: Connecting Technology, Transforming Care.”
In his keynote address, Shri Nag highlighted the transformative potential of digital technologies in healthcare, emphasising that language, context and healthcare-specific data are essential to building technology that is accessible, accurate and responsive to the needs of patients and healthcare professionals.
He outlined the four pillars of BHASHINI and its growing role in healthcare, including speech, translation and other language technologies, which can reduce communication barriers and make healthcare systems more inclusive across India’s diverse linguistic landscape.
He stressed the need for medical and nursing glossaries as foundational language resources for healthcare-focused AI systems. While medical terminology requires consistency, patients often describe symptoms in everyday language, and the same condition may be expressed differently across languages, regions and contexts. AI systems therefore need healthcare-specific language data to understand this diversity accurately. A well-developed glossary can connect clinical terminology with everyday language, creating a common language layer between healthcare professionals, patients and AI systems.
Shri Nag also underlined the importance of language in care delivery. Since healthcare communication spans diverse linguistic and social contexts, language, datasets, digital literacy and clinical accuracy are key to the effective adoption of digital health technologies.
He spoke about the BHASHINI Domain Innovation Challenge in Healthcare, which encourages technology-led solutions to practical challenges in healthcare communication. Among the solutions highlighted was an AI-powered voice-to-text tool for OPD prescriptions, demonstrating how speech and language technologies can support clinical workflows and enable more efficient documentation. He noted the potential of voice-first and multilingual technologies to bridge the gap between technology and the realities of healthcare delivery, particularly where communication must move seamlessly between clinical terminology and the language patients use.
Speaking on language in compassionate healthcare, Shri Nag said, “Context matters, care matters, compassion matters, and healthcare, all three become even more important when we are communicating with people in a language they understand.”
The discussions at the Scientific Conclave reflected the growing intersection of nursing, healthcare, digital technologies and AI, while underscoring the need to keep technological advancement grounded in the human dimensions of care.
The participation of CEO, BHASHINI, at the MNS Centenary Scientific Conclave highlighted the importance of building digital health solutions that recognise India’s linguistic diversity and support healthcare professionals and patients through technologies that are accessible, context-aware and designed around real-world communication needs.
The Scientific Conclave formed an important part of the closing celebrations of the Centenary Year of the Military Nursing Service, commemorating a century of dedicated service and recognising the evolving role of nursing in an increasingly technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem.
