Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment visits AYJNISHD(D), Mumbai

The Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) [AYJNISHD(D)], Mumbai hosted the Chairperson, Shri P.C. Mohan, and Members of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment (2025–26) during their study visit to the Institute today.
The Chairperson and the accompanying delegation were warmly welcomed by Dr. Suman Kumar, Director, AYJNISHD(D), along with senior officials of the Institute. Dr. Suman Kumar introduced the distinguished guests to the Heads of various Departments, facilitating meaningful interactions and discussions on the Institute’s activities and initiatives.
The visit commenced with a traditional welcome presented by the children of the Cross Disability Early Intervention Centre and students of the B.Ed. Special Education (Hearing Impairment) programme. This was followed by a tree plantation ceremony within the Institute premises.
A comprehensive presentation highlighting the Institute’s journey, achievements, academic and clinical services, research activities, capacity-building initiatives, and outreach programmes was delivered by the Director. On the occasion, the Chairperson released two significant publications of the Institute — Growing Together, a module developed by the Cross Disability Early Intervention Centre, and Development of Communication Linguistic Assessment Protocol in Bangla for Right Hemisphere Disorders.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured various key facilities of the Institute and gained first-hand insight into the services and programmes being implemented for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan). The Chairperson also inaugurated the newly renovated Audiological Wing, marking another milestone in the Institute’s commitment to providing quality diagnostic and rehabilitation services.
AYJNISHD(D) expressed its sincere gratitude to the Chairperson and Members of the Standing Committee for their esteemed visit, valuable guidance, and continued support towards strengthening rehabilitation, education, research, and empowerment initiatives for persons with disabilities across the country.
