The Ministry of Mines and its field offices have undertaken several initiatives during the first fortnight of Special Campaign 6, launched on 2 October 2026, to promote sustainability, cleanliness and responsible resource management. With a focus on the effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste, the Ministry and its field organisations are making concerted efforts to adopt environmentally sustainable practices and innovative approaches to resource conservation.
During the first fortnight, organisations under the Ministry implemented several noteworthy best practices to advance environmental sustainability and workplace excellence. Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) inaugurated a rainwater harvesting initiative at Khetri Copper Complex (KCC), Rajasthan, to promote water conservation and sustainable water management. A plantation drive was also undertaken at Indian Copper Complex (ICC), Jharkhand, under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative to enhance green cover and promote environmental protection. The Geological Survey of India (GSI), Central Headquarters, Kolkata, has discontinued the use of single-use plastic water bottles in all official meetings, conferences and videoconferencing halls, replacing them with reusable stainless-steel or metal water bottles and glass jugs. National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) introduced a Clean Desk & Workplace Excellence Competition among employees to promote workplace cleanliness and organised workspaces, along with the One Employee, One Green Initiative to encourage individual participation in environmental conservation. The Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) undertook various Waste-to-Wealth/art initiatives including transforming barren and unutilised space near hospital into attractive green spaces and gardens and promoting the productive use of available resources.
As part of the e-waste management drive, the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), in association with the Materials Recycling Association of India (MRAI), is facilitating e-waste collection drive across various locations. So far, 3,020 kg of e-waste has been collected, and ₹3,07,855 has been disbursed by recyclers. E-waste collected at various participating locations will be channelled for responsible recycling and recovery of critical minerals through appropriate mechanisms, thereby promoting the circular economy and ensuring environmentally sound disposal of discarded electronic equipment.
The progress achieved during the first fortnight of Special Campaign 6.0 reflects the collective efforts of organisations under the Ministry to promote sustainable workplace practices, strengthen environmental responsibility and contribute to a cleaner and greener future.
