Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, the Government of India has allocated ₹2,000 crore to support States and Union Territories in expanding Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure;
The scheme provides category-wise subsidies:
Category A offers 100% subsidy on both upstream infrastructure and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) for installations at State/Central Government premises such as government offices, Govt. residential complexes, Govt. hospitals, Govt. educational institutions, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), and other government establishments, provided the chargers are freely accessible to the public;
Category B covers 80% subsidy on upstream infrastructure and 70% on EVSE for locations owned or managed by government or public sector undertakings, including railway stations, airports (Airports Authority of India-operated), public sector Oil Manufacturing Company (OMC) outlets, bus stations operated by State Transport Units, Metro stations, Municipal parking lots, public sector ports, and toll plazas or way-side amenities under NHAI or State control;
Category C provides 80% subsidy on upstream infrastructure for all other locations such as city streets, shopping malls, market complexes, and highway/expressway sites not covered under Categories A or B; and
Category D offers 80% subsidy on upstream infrastructure for Battery Swapping Stations (BSS) and Battery Charging Stations (BCS) deployed at any location Interested individuals, commercial entities, restaurants, malls, and establishments with designated parking facilities and public accessibility , particularly those situated along State Highways, National Highways, and major public corridors, are hereby invited to submit the site details, and proposed charger specifications with the existing Electricity Service Number to the concerned Assistant Engineer (AE) /TGSPDCL) of the area for consideration under Category C of the scheme, where in 80% subsidy on upstream infrastructure costs—such as transformer, HT/LT line extension, and civil works will be provided, while the remaining 20% and the cost of EV charging station installation shall be borne by the applicant.
In this regard a meeting was conducted in TGSPDCL with CPOs (Charge Point Operators) in the Corporate Office of TGSPDCL to discuss various issues related to the EV charge points. TGSPDCL Chairman & Managing Director Sri Musharraf Faruqui, IAS, Telangana REDCO, Vice – Chairman & Managing Director, Smt. V Anila, TGSPDCL Director / Projects, HR Sri Sivaji and other officers participated in the meeting.
