Hyderabad, India, 9 June 2025 — Arete Hospitals, Gachibowli, in association with the Vascular Society of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, organised a two-day hands-on workshop focused exclusively on vascular access procedures. Held on 7 and 8 June, the workshop attracted over 60 participants, including vascular surgeons, nephrologists, and postgraduate medical professionals, for a comprehensive training experience in dialysis-related vascular techniques.
What made this workshop unique was its emphasis on direct, skills-based learning. Each participant was paired with an individual faculty member, allowing for personalised mentorship and real-time guidance during practical sessions. The teaching faculty featured seasoned experts from prominent medical institutions such as NIMS, Yashoda Hospitals, KIMS, and Lourdes Hospital. The programme was led by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Chevuturu, who heads the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Arete Hospitals and served as the workshop’s course director.
The first day was dedicated to academic sessions and interactive panels covering essential topics. These included the principles of AV fistula creation, site assessment using ultrasound, managing complications in vascular access, and the use of drug-coated balloons in treating stenosis. Emerging methods, such as stem cell therapy for limb ischemia and techniques for salvaging blocked or failing access circuits, were also discussed in detail.
The second day focused on hands-on experience. Participants observed and practised procedures such as radiocephalic and brachiocephalic AV fistulas, AV grafts, fistuloplasty, and catheter placement. Simulation-based learning formed the core of the session, enabling participants to work with current tools and adopt internationally accepted protocols.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Chevuturu stated: “Precise vascular access is essential to effective dialysis care, yet many clinicians are not given adequate opportunity to build these skills. Through this programme, we sought to address that gap with structured, practical training delivered by experienced professionals. The enthusiasm and feedback from participants have been truly motivating.”
Adding his perspective, Dr. Vijender Reddy, Chairman of Arete Hospitals, said:
“This initiative reflects our continued focus on enhancing medical education in India. High-quality training in vascular access can directly impact dialysis outcomes, and we are pleased to support such efforts. Workshops like this lay the groundwork for stronger clinical practice and better patient care across the country.”
Vasu Gutta, Managing Director, Arete Hospitals shared that “This workshop is a testament to the kind of forward-thinking, skill-based training that Indian healthcare needs. We are proud to provide a platform where clinical knowledge is not just shared but practically applied, ensuring that participants leave better equipped to serve their patients.”
“At Arete Hospitals, we believe that true clinical excellence stems from continuous learning and collaboration. Hosting India’s first dedicated vascular access workshop aligns with our mission to empower healthcare professionals with the skills and confidence to deliver high-impact care, especially in critical areas like dialysis access.” commented Prabhakar Raju Konda, Executive Director, Arete Hospitals
Dr. Pavan Kumar Reddy, Medical Director & HOD – Critical Care Medicine, Arete Hospitals shared “Vascular access plays a pivotal role in critical care and dialysis management. This hands-on workshop addressed a long-standing gap in structured training and introduced clinicians to newer technologies and refined techniques that are essential in saving lives and reducing complications.”
Participants earned four CME credit hours from the Telangana Medical Council. The event represents a significant step in advancing vascular access education and reinforces Arete Hospitals’ role as a centre for excellence in medical learning.
This workshop is just one example of the complex and high-acuity cases routinely managed at Arete Hospitals. The Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, led by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Chevuturu, is recognised for handling a wide spectrum of challenging vascular conditions—including limb salvage procedures, aneurysm repairs, and minimally invasive endovascular interventions.
Complementing this expertise is Arete’s Nephrology Department, which plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive renal care—from preventive nephrology and CKD management to advanced dialysis protocols and renal transplant support. Together, these departments work in seamless coordination to deliver multidisciplinary care for patients with complex vascular and renal needs.
With advanced infrastructure, a dedicated Cath Lab, hybrid OT capabilities, and round-the-clock critical care support, Arete Hospitals has become a referral centre for complicated vascular and nephrology cases, not only in Telangana but across the region.
