The Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, organised a two-day Regional Rural Workshop under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) in Lucknow on 27–28 October 2026. Held as a Samvad, it brought together States and field functionaries to deliberate on implementation and reforms.
Around 150 officials from Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and the host State of Uttar Pradesh are participating.
The workshop was graced by Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; Shri Kamlesh Paswan, Hon’ble Minister of State for Rural Development, Government of India; and Smt. Vijay Lakshmi Gautam, Hon’ble Minister of State for Rural Development, Uttar Pradesh. Senior officials of the Ministry and the State Government were also present.
On the occasion, the dignitaries symbolically handed over house keys to PMAY-G beneficiaries of Uttar Pradesh as part of their “Grih Pravesh”.
With PMAY-G targeting 4.95 crore rural houses by March 2029, participants deliberated in detail on four proposed reforms for the next phase: cluster-based housing, strengthening of Rural Mason Training, Centres of Excellence, and a credit framework for rural housing. States shared their views on the feasibility, design and rollout of these reforms, while district and block functionaries from Uttar Pradesh presented field perspectives, highlighting ground-level challenges, good practices and the convergence and capacity needed for implementation.
This was followed by a State-wise review of progress, focusing on bottlenecks in house completion, timely release of instalments and construction quality. Technical and fund-flow issues relating to AwaasSoft and SNA-SPARSH were also discussed, including the need to ensure that eligible households are not inadvertently excluded during technology-enabled processes.
On the second day, the remaining States will present their progress, followed by a field visit to PMAY-G houses.
The workshop is expected to promote peer learning, address implementation bottlenecks and strengthen delivery of PMAY-G to eligible rural households.
