Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Union Ministry of Education, is actively implementing Special Campaign 6 from Oct 2 to 31, 2026, with a focus on improving administrative efficiency, promoting cleanliness across school campuses and strengthening responsible electronic waste (e-waste) management. The Campaign also seeks to encourage school students and communities to adopt sustainable practices.

Key focus areas under Special Campaign 6 include:

  1. Minimising Pendency and Enhancing Efficiency in Official Work

Efforts are being undertaken across the Department and its organisations to minimise pendency in official work, review files across various categories, digitise records, weed out obsolete files and strengthen record management practices. These measures aim to streamline administrative processes, optimise the use of office space and promote efficient functioning.

  1. Promoting Cleanliness across School Campuses

Spearheaded by Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE, schools across the country are undertaking cleanliness drives to maintain clean and hygienic campuses. These efforts aim to strengthen a culture of cleanliness and collective responsibility among students and school staff to create healthier learning environments.

  1. Strengthening e-Waste Awareness and Collection in Schools

As part of Special Campaign 6 and under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE, e-waste awareness and collection drives are being undertaken in schools across the nation to sensitise students and teachers to the importance of responsible e-waste management.

The activities focus on raising awareness about the environmental impact of electronic waste and encouraging students to become active participants in e-waste management by reducing electronic waste and ensuring that discarded equipment is disposed of through authorized channels.

These efforts seek to nurture environmentally conscious behaviour among students and strengthen the role of schools in promoting sustainable practices.

  1. Installation of e-waste bins and Murals at Kartavya Bhavan 2

To mark the International e-waste Day on October 14, 2026, DoSEL installed a creative e-waste mural and e-waste bins at Kartavya Bhavan 2. The mural is made from 50 kg e-waste collected by school students. Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020 and Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE, the mural promotes the message of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”. The bins provide a designated facility for collecting discarded electronic items and reinforce the importance of appropriate e-waste management in institutional settings.

  1. Commitment to Environment Friendliness

Secretary, DoSEL, Shri T. K. Anil Kumar chaired a video conference with States/UTs and autonomous bodies on October 16, 2026 to review preparations for the nationwide e-waste awareness and collection drive scheduled on October 28, 2026. The Secretary briefed the participants about the activities to be carried out including the IEC campaign and emphasized upon chalking out a plan for handing over the e-waste collected in schools to authorized vendors.

By combining school-level cleanliness drives with e-waste awareness and collection initiatives under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE, Special Campaign 6 reinforces the importance of collective action in building clean, environmentally responsible educational institutions.
